John Rambo's second adventure resulted in a significant success for Stallone. It cemented his status as one of the most famous males of America in the 1980s. Stallone rode a surge of popularity and made Rocky Balboa his old sparring with partner. The actor returned to the ring in order to ensure American pride against the threat of a Soviet threat, a Russian-born boxer who was dubbed Ivan Drago (played by curt Dolph Ludgren in Rocky IV (1985). The film's fourth installment was somewhat controversial for "Rocky" fans, as violence levels seemed excessive compared to prior "Rocky" movies, particularly when it came to the brutal beating suffered to Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers, at the at the hands of the unstoppable "Siberian Express".
